This innovative resource provided by SCI helps make STEM learning exciting and fun and is now available in the D&T Association’s resource shop. It works through encouraging pupils – working individually, in pairs, or as a team – to design and make their own miniature racing car, go on to test its aerodynamic qualities using the launch system and unique roll-out race track, and finally re-evaluate their designs to produce a winning car.
Pupils fold a pre-cut chassis net to make a basic racing car, research air resistance, gravity, and air pressure, then design and make a car bodyshell and test the aerodynamic qualities of their cars by racing them down the unique roll-out race track. Testing allows you to analyse the results and modify their designs to gain those incremental changes that are so important in car racing.
Taking part in this exciting project allows pupils to develop not only skills in STEM-related subjects, but also life skills in areas of creativity, problem-solving, communication, confidence and teamwork. The project is an ideal introduction to the new F1 in Schools Primary Class, which brings the exciting world of F1 in Schools into the
Primary classroom.
